Mill Park Secondary College offers senior students the opportunity to study VCAL, the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning. Students considering studying VCAL are students who are interested in going on to further training at TAFE, enrolling in an apprenticeship or getting a job after completing school. VCAL is best suited to students who enjoy working in a “hands on” manner and have a practical approach to learning.
VCAL students receive a full year 12 certificate upon completion of their two year course, and study 5 strands:
- Literacy skills
- Numeracy skills
- Industry specific skills
- Work Related skills
- Personal Development skills.
All VCAL students are required to complete a VET subject as part of their course. The flexibility of course allows them to undertake a work/study program that suits their interests and learning needs.
In 2012 the College launched the VCAL Centre for Excellence, a purpose built facility which contains classrooms, a study/breakout space and the VCAL office. VCAL students spend a large amount of their time in and around the centre, providing them with a central support for their learning.
