Vocational Education and Training (VET)

A VCE VET program can be chosen as part of your VCE.  This means that you will be undertaking training in a specific vocational area, for instance Hospitality.  As part of your training, you would complete a work placement that provides you with the opportunity to put your knowledge and skills into practice.  This training will contribute towards a satisfactory completion of your VCE and it will give you a nationally recognised vocational qualification.  The vocational qualification will provide you with access to further training and may improve your chances of getting work when you leave school.

Advantages of a VCE VET Program for Students

  • Students have the opportunity of completing the VCE and a fully accredited and industry recognised TAFE Certificate (Where national modules are used, the TAFE Certificate will be recognised nationally).
  • Students who complete a VCE VET study will gain credit towards their ENTER.
  • Students acquire competencies which are required by industry and meet industry standards, as TAFE curriculum is industry driven.
  • Students will have an increased awareness of education and training pathways.
  • Students who intend seeking employment post Year 12 will have the advantage of having completed a TAFE qualification, valued and recognised by employers.
  • Students will have all post school pathways open to them.  That is, they can apply for entry into university courses, TAFE courses and training programs or seek to join the workforce.
