As Middle Years Campus Principal, I welcome you to the
Mill
Park
Secondary
College community. Choosing a
Secondary
College is a very important decision on behalf of your child and I want to assure you that we are “committed to providing a supportive, comprehensive and challenging education” for your child, embracing the best in Middle Years educational innovation.
Our Strategic Plan purpose statement is ‘Together we engage, educate and celebrate excellence; developing students who are respectful and responsible’. We value Respect, Responsibility, Achievement and Enjoyment. These statements underpin all that the Middle Years Campus undertakes in terms of student learning and well-being. The College is an Excellence in Education school which supports the above purpose and ensures we strive to continuously improve our processes and to increase student achievement and engagement.
We are a large and vibrant community, proud that our size enables the most extensive choice of programs for students in the northern suburbs of
Melbourne . The Middle Years Campus (Years 7 – 9) is located in
Mill
Park while the Senior Campus (years 10 – 12) is located in Epping. The College services a wide area including
Mill
Park , Bundoora, South Morang, Epping,
Diamond
Valley and the semi-rural fringe of Whittlesea and Plenty.
At the Middle Years Campus, students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to prepare them for the Senior Campus, their future education, work and life. This is facilitated through the Victorian Essential Learning Standards including physical, personal and social learning, discipline based learning and interdisciplinary learning domains.
As part of our commitment to academic excellence,
Mill
Park
Secondary
College offers a Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) Program for gifted and talented students which begins in Year 7 and continues throughout their secondary schooling. This program caters for gifted and talented students who are characterised by an advanced speed of learning and a capacity for remarkably high standards of performance compared to students of the same age.
An Extension and Enrichment program also runs at each year level 7-10 for students who are high achievers. The program provides an academically challenging extension to the core curriculum, as well as greater access to extra curricular activities.
Since 2005
Mill
Park
Secondary
College has established a Scholarship Program. We offer Academic, Music, Sporting, Community – Good Citizenship and Student Leadership scholarships to students who have displayed outstanding attributes whilst at Primary School and possess personal qualities and values that will contribute to the life of the College.
The College is founded on a Pastoral Program that allows each child to be connected with a caring adult, as part of the Year 7-12 core curriculum. Student management is based on a Homegroup and House system. The Homegroup Teacher has much contact with this group through teaching the class and the Pastoral Program. Homegroup teachers, House Leaders, School Nurse, Sub School Leaders and three Student Welfare Coordinators provide student support.
An English as a Second Language (ESL) program operates College wide, as does an Inclusive Curriculum program with Integration teachers and aides supporting students with a disability or impairment. Literacy and Numeracy programs are being supported by the College aiming to improve student outcomes for all students.
Emphasis is placed on encouraging all students to participate in wide ranging inter, and intra School Sports Programs offered by College staff. Students are also supported in the pursuit of other co-curricular activities such as debating, public speaking, drama/theatre, dance, musical productions and art exhibitions. Student leadership is encouraged through leadership programs, the Student Representative Councils (SRC), membership of College committees, participation in community activities and special programs such as Heartmasters, Kids Help line, Peer Support, Peer Mentoring and Supportive Friends.
The Campus has excellent facilities, including a library, computer rooms, gymnasium, canteen, a Sound House Studio, grassed playing areas, shade sails - outdoor paved areas with outdoor furniture for relaxation, and modern air-conditioned classrooms. It also has access to a Basketball Stadium, an Athletics Track, an Arts and Cultural Centre and an indoor swimming pool, which are community resources close to the College.
Through a partnership with the Victorian School of Languages, the Middle Years Campus provides a successful Saturday morning school in seven foreign languages. The College has maintained an active role in the Whittlesea Youth Commitment and has a full time Transition Broker working in our College. The College is also an active member of the Whittlesea Schools Network.
We look forward to your contribution and your child’s active participation in the life of our
Secondary
College over the years. Should you have any questions or wish to visit the College, please feel free to contact our Year 6/7 Transition Coordinator or me on 9407 9700.
