Debating

Mill Park Secondary College runs debating and public speaking programs for students from Year 7 through to Year 12. The program is open to all students, and provides training in presentation, speech writing, argument development and impromptu preparation techniques.

Students have the option to compete in internal competitions, as well as in external events such as the Legacy Junior Public Speaking competition, and the Debater’s Association of Victoria’s standard and British Parliamentary debating tournaments.

The program provides a framework within which students can learn to work effectively together, and not only equips students with the skills to speak in public, but also improves their critical analysis and thinking skills, which has a flow-on effect to their other studies.
