At MPSC our students are offered numerous opportunities for additional support with their learning throughout their journey from Year 7 to Year 12.

YALP program

Students in Year 7 who face significant challenges with their literacy skills (including reading, writing, and spelling) receive extra support through the YALP program. This program provides students with short daily one-on-one support sessions with literacy staff who work through activities targeted at each student’s specific area of need. The students are withdrawn from their regular classes for these sessions, which usually last about ten minutes. Some students will continue with this program beyond Year 7, depending on their level of literacy need.

Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support (MYLNS)

Students in Year 10 who have shown limited literacy and/or numeracy growth, as measured by their Year 9 NAPLAN test performance, are offered additional support in Year 10 through a mixture of in-class and withdrawal sessions with teachers.

This support is currently being provided to students at Senior Campus only, but will be offered at the Middle Years campus from 2021 onwards.

Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)

Staff at both campuses create and review ILPs for students who are operating significantly above or below the expected level for their age group, for all students who qualify for funding and for all students with an ATSI background.
